Access to Success is designed to prevent and/or reduce the use 
and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other related drugs with at-risk
youth ages 13 to 18 in the St. Landry Parish communities.
Strategies
are presented to teens suggesting ways to prevent, reduce or
circumvent day-to-day situations in which peer pressure could lead
to use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD).
Enrichment activities designed for the development of the self-esteem
of the child such as educational field trips, guest speakers and opportunities to explore social living skills will be employed. It is vital
that at-risk teens in the communities be exposed to positive alcohol-free, tobacco-free and drug-free alternatives.
Program Goals
- Provide information to the community to increase awareness of ATOD risk factors and other related issues.
- Provide weekly ATOD prevention education through interactive presentations.
- Provide tutorial & homework assistance using appropriate computer software.
- Enable effective decision making, positive resolution to conflict situations, peer refusal skills and positive self-esteem through video presentations & group discussions.
- Provide alcohol, tobacco and other drug-free recreational activities.
Program Mission Statement
It is the desire of Access to Success to offer a community-based drug education/prevention program in the St. Landry Parish communities that will meet the individual needs of at-risk youth ages 13 to 18. The program will collaborate with other agencies to protect our youth and community from the ill effects of ATOD use while focusing on developing skills in:
- Conflict resolution training
- Effective communication
- Anti-drug messages to peers
- Developing positive self-esteem, attitudes & educational goals
- Violence prevention
