Earl Taylor has practiced law for more than 30 years. He also served as
an Assistant District Attorney for St. Landry Parish for 17 years. Mr. Taylor served two terms in the House of Delegates of the Louisiana Bar Association; is the former president of the Louisiana Assistant District Attorneys Association; served as president of the St. Landry Parish Bar Association; as well as president of the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber
of Commerce. Mr. Taylor is recognized in the Who's Who of American
Law, and was honored as Man of the Year by the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce. On June 24, 1999, Victims and Citizens Against Crime, Inc. recognized Earl Taylor as District Attorney of the Year. This honor was bestowed upon him because of his many accomplishments in the area of victim's rights.
Mr. Taylor is a native of Palmetto, Louisiana, and graduated from Palmetto High School before entering Louisiana State University. He graduated from LSU Law School in 1965. He is married to the former Norma Lee Fouxs of Opelousas, Louisiana, and they are the parents of two children, Johnny Taylor and Laura Taylor Marler. Mr. Taylor is an active member of the Louisiana United Methodist Church in Opelousas where he is involved in the Methodist Cursillo Movement.
Earl Taylor was sworn in on January 13, 1997 as District Attorney of the Twenty-Seventh Judicial District Court, which includes all of St. Landry Parish. Since his inauguration, Earl Taylor has instituted new programs such as the Helping Hands Mentoring Program and the Access to Success Youth Program, both aimed at keeping children off the streets and off drugs and alcohol. Mr. Taylor's office has vigorously prosecuted the serious criminals as well as providing justice for the victims of misdemeanor offences. His many years of experience have proven to be beneficial, as the District Attorney's Office is in the forefront in both law enforcement and crime prevention efforts in St. Landry Parish.
