TASC is a pilot program designed to target potential truancy of students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In the St. Landry Parish School District, there are twenty-seven (27) schools that contain these grade levels. Once a student reaches five (5) unexcused absences, whether or not those absences are consecutive, these schools are requested to refer the student to our office. After a referral is tascreceived, the parent is contacted by mail or telephone and may be scheduled for a conference with a TASC officer depending on the seriousness of the absences and/or the student's behavior. Low risk cases require monitoring of attendance for the remainder of the school year. In high risk cases, a conference is held at which time a plan is created to improve the sudent's attendance and the student is closely monitored for the remainder of the school year. The TASC program refers parents in need of parenting skills or improvement thereof to a parenting program possessed by the TASC office and refers students to other services such as mentoring, counseling, tutoring, and after school programs. The TASC program also assists families in obtaining financial assistance, job searching, seeking medical attention, and several other services that are located in our community. Non-compliance with referrals or continued truancy ultimately results in prosecution.

The school uniform donation program is also run through the TASC office.
