The primary function of the Traffic Division is to process and prosecute citations issued by law enforcement agencies within the parish boundaries.
This division, headed by Mary Fitzgerald and a staff of three assistants, is responsible for notifying the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles of license suspensions as a result of failure to pay or non-appearance in court.
The office handles an average of 3,000 citations per month. Assistant District Attorney Robert Bordelon is responsible for the prosecution of all traffic infractions, both non-moving violations (seatbelt, expired motor vehicle inspection tag) and moving violations (speeding, DWI/DUI) committed the 27th Judicial District.
